In the past year, through the Bulloch County Schools Social Worker weblink to The Button, we supported a single-parent family of three during an especially difficult time. The mother, who lives on a fixed disability income, was hospitalized for over a month due to serious illness. When the children returned home to her care, the family discovered they were dealing with a head lice infestation.

With limited financial resources and no flexibility in her monthly income, their mother would have had to wait nearly two weeks before she could afford the necessary treatment and hygiene supplies. The children required multiple rounds of treatment, along with basic items such as shampoo and conditioner. Without prompt intervention, they would have been unable to attend school, further disrupting their stability during an already traumatic period.

Our program provided the lice treatment kits and essential hygiene products immediately and without hesitation. As a result, the children were able to return to school quickly, healthy and confident. This support not only addressed an urgent health concern but also reduced stress for their mother during her recovery, helping the entire family regain a sense of normalcy.
